Residents of Lagacharla village, Telangana, met National Human Rights Commission Chairperson Vijaya Bharati Sayani to complain about their lands being grabbed unjustly by the state government. They even apprised about the alleged atrocities that they are facing at the hands of the police.
Earlier, they even submitted a petition to SC/ST Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah in Hyderabad.
They are urging the Commission to initiate action against police officials accused of misconduct during an investigation into a confrontation between farmers and government officials.
It has been learnt that the investigation is led by BRS leaders.
According to the victims, police officers forcibly entered their homes late at night, insulted them, and subjected them to sexual violence. They appealed for justice and sought legal action against the accused personnel.
"Revanth Reddy government is the reason of our probelm. The previous government always catered to us. But, now, under the present regime we are facing atrocities at the hands of the police, as we try to protect our land," said a woman, who went to meet the NHRC chairperson today in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has also intensified his criticism of the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government, accusing it of committing atrocities against tribal communities under the guise of land acquisition for the Pharma Village project in the Kondangal constituency.
KTR also accused Reddy of attempts to portray the farmers’ protests in Lagacherla as a political conspiracy.
He, reportedly, asserted that the land for the Pharma Village is intended for his son-in-law.
