Ten individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident on Friday when an SUV veered off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and plunged into a gorge in Ramban district.
The incident occurred around 1:15 am at the Battery Cheshma area of the district while the vehicle was en route from Srinagar to Jammu. Reports indicate that the SUV fell into a 300-feet gorge, resulting in the fatalities.
Among the deceased are the driver of the vehicle, Balwan Singh (47), hailing from Amb Ghrotha in Jammu, and Vipin Mukhiya Bhairagang from West Champaran in Bihar.
Authorities, including the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, swiftly responded to the scene. Despite challenging weather conditions with heavy rains, rescue teams managed to recover the bodies of all ten passengers.
The rescue operation remains ongoing as efforts continue to retrieve any remaining individuals who may be trapped or injured.
This tragic incident follows a similar accident on March 4, where four people lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries in a vehicle mishap in Ramban.
