Tension erupted in Mandsaur on Monday following allegations of stone-pelting during an Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession. A man reported to the Kotwali police station that he was injured by stones thrown at him during the religious event.
As news of the incident spread, large numbers of people from the Hindu community gathered at a local temple to protest, demanding justice for the alleged victim. The unrest led several shopkeepers to close their businesses, contributing to heightened tension in the city.
A stampede reportedly occurred in the chaos following the alleged stone-pelting. The police responded quickly, bringing the situation under control, and a flag march was conducted to increase security in the area.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid spreading rumours and to stay indoors. “The situation is now under control,” said Mandsaur Superintendent of Police Abhisek Anand. “I urge citizens not to upload unverified photos and videos on social media. Those found spreading rumours will face strict action.”
The police chief also confirmed that the unrest led to a stampede and prompted local businesses to shut down temporarily.
