Tension surfaces in Telangana Congress ahead of MLC polls

The party high command is worried that any rebellion by MLAs ahead of local body and MLC elections could send a wrong message to the public.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to meet ministers at the Command Control Center to address the growing dissent.


Tension brewing in Telangana Congress. The condition is such that 10 of its members have held secret meetings to decide their future course of action. 

The development has come ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the state raising concerns on the Karnataka Congress. 

 

The meeting, reportedly, took place at MLA Anirudh Reddy’s farmhouse in Gandipet, which is located at the outskirts of Hyderabad.

 

The MLAs reportedly gathered to voice their concerns over the actions of two ministers, who are allegedly demanding bribes to clear bills for contractors’ work. There has been growing dissent within the party, particularly against Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Minister of Information and Public Relations of Telangana.

 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to meet ministers at the Command Control Center to address the growing dissent, particularly against minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Sensing the urgency, Ponguleti cancelled his Palair tour to attend the meeting.

 

It has been learnt that in a strict directive, CM Reddy has also instructed officials not to attend any 'secret' meetings.

The party high command is worried that any rebellion by MLAs ahead of local body and MLC elections could send a wrong message to the public.

 

The CM also directed all the ministers to improve coordination with MLAs, prioritise their concerns, and consider their recommendations.

 

Amid the buzz, Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi said it was just a dinner meeting and charged that opposition parties were trying to blow it out of proportion. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, the Congress MP said the meeting was held at ITC Kohinoor and not in a farmhouse.


The state is gearing up for local body elections and MLC elections. 

 

Elections for one graduates and two Teachers MLC constituencies in Telangana will be held on February 27 and results will be announced on March 3.
