A Delhi court on Tuesday rejected the pleas filed by the two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, who were challenging the framing of charges against them in a terror funding case.

A bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Manoj Jain rejected the appeals, holding that they were not permissible and maintainable.

The duo had challenged a 2021 trial court order framing charges against them.

As per the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the case involves the transfer of funds through hawala channels from Pakistan-based terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir, in a criminal conspiracy hatched with more operatives in India.

According to NIA said these funds were funnelled and used to fund the secessionist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Syed Shahid Yousuf, one of Hizbul chief’s sons, was arrested in October 2017. His brother, Syed Ahmad Shakeel, was arrested by the anti-terror agency in August 2018 from his Srinagar residence in connection with the terror funding case registered in 2011.

The NIA had stated that Yousuf was arrested on allegations of collecting funds for Hizbul Mujahideen through overseas channels and was chargesheeted in 2018.

The agency further said that Shakeel received money through Western Union from absconding accused Aijaz Ahmad Bhat. His name had also surfaced in raising, receiving and collecting funds for the terrorist organisation through its cadres in Saudi Arabia.

Salahuddin, who has been designated a global terrorist by the United States, is the self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen.
