Security forces busted a militant hideout in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials confirmed on Sunday. They said the operation led to the recoveries of arms and ammunition from the hideout.
The hideout was detected during a coordinated cordon and search operation in the Suchliwaran forest in the Sheeri area of Baramulla on Saturday, the official said.
The official added that security forces recovered two hand grenades, 24 rounds of AK-47 rifle, one wireless antenna, one axe, one wire cutter and two umbrellas from the hideout.
In a separate development, a constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was injured when his service rifle accidentally went off in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.
Constable Dinesh Kumar was on duty when he suffered grievous injuries to the shoulder after his service rifle accidentally misfired at Kathua Railway Station late Saturday night, the officials said. He was quickly rushed to the nearby Government Medical College hospital, Kathua, for treatment.
In a similar incident, on November 22, 2025 an Agniveer died after he was struck by a bullet from his own service rifle while on duty.
Earlier that month, on November 3, Naik Amarjeet Singh was killed in Jhulass village, Poonch, when his weapon accidentally discharged during sentry duty.
Meanwhile, in 2025, Jammu and Kashmir recorded only around 17 security personnel deaths due to terror-related violence, indicating that a significant portion of total force casualties in the region continued to stem from non-operational causes, such as accidental discharges from service firearms.
