Security forces on Wednesday evening busted a terrorist hideout in the dense forest area of Rajouri district, leading to the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and other items, officials said.

The hideout was discovered during a combing operation launched by personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles in the Chamrer forest area of Thanamandi tehsil. Officials said that besides the IED, troops recovered some eatables and clothes from the site. No arrests have been made in connection with the recovery so far.

This operation is part of a sustained series of counter-terrorism efforts across the Jammu division in recent months. Security forces have busted multiple major terror hideouts in districts including Kathua, Poonch, and Kishtwar.

Earlier, on February 25, 2026, a joint search operation by the Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Salani Kasblari village (Mendhar, Poonch) uncovered a hideout containing two IEDs (4.5 kg and 800 grams), Chinese grenades, and a 9 mm pistol.

On January 19, 2026, troops busted an underground hideout at 12,000 feet in the Singhpora area of Chhatroo (Kishtwar), reportedly used by Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists.

On January 17, 2026, three hideouts were destroyed in the Billawar tehsil forest areas (Kamaad Nallah, Kalaban) in Kathua district following a heavy exchange of fire with terrorists.

Security forces, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, have intensified operations against terrorist infrastructure in the region following a recent encounter in which three terrorists were neutralised.
