Authorities at the Thakur Bankebihari Temple in Vrindavan have issued an appeal urging devotees to dress modestly and avoid wearing "indecent clothing" while visiting the sacred premises.
The request, aimed at maintaining the sanctity of the temple, was conveyed through banners and media channels, particularly targeting roads leading to the popular site.
The advisory comes as the temple braces for a significant influx of visitors during the New Year period.
Munish Sharma, the temple manager, elaborated on the rationale, stating, “We have seen instances where devotees, particularly from outside the region, arrive dressed in casual tourist attire like jeans and t-shirts. This is not following the temple's respect for tradition.”
The temple authorities highlighted that garments such as mini skirts, torn jeans, half pants, and night suits are inappropriate, asserting that such attire
undermines the dignity of the holy site.
A longstanding cultural landmark, the Thakur Bankebihari Temple annually attracts thousands of devotees, including foreign tourists.
Officials believe this measure will help uphold the temple's cultural dignity and traditions.
