In a heart-breaking appeal, Laishram Herojit, a father from Manipur’s Jiribam district, has urged for the safe return of his family member after they were abducted during a violent encounter between suspected militants and security forces on November 11.
Six members of his family, including his wife, two children, and his mother-in-law, are among those missing.
The family, which also includes two young children—Laishram Chinghheinganba (2) and Telam Thajamanbi (8)—and an infant, Laishram Langamba, had been displaced earlier this year, along with other Meetei people, after violence forced them from their homes in June.
They had been residing near a CRPF camp in Jakuradhor and the Borobekra police station when they were abducted.
The abduction took place in the same area where, earlier that day, security forces killed 10 insurgents in an encounter. Since then, the family has vanished without a trace, leaving their relatives in anguish.
Herojit, struggling to hold back his tears, shared his deep sorrow with media persons.
“The six missing people include my wife, my two children, my mother-in-law, and my wife’s sister. They are all innocent. They belong to one family. But no one has told us whether they are alive or dead. We just don’t know where they are,” Herojit said with gloomy eyes.
As the hours drag on with no word about his loved ones, Herojit’s pain only deepens.
“I ask those who have taken them—please, just let them go. Bring them back safely. We are suffering. We just want to know they are alright and that they will come home,” he pleaded.
