Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan has raised alarm over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s growing presence in Tamil Nadu.

In a Facebook video released on Sunday, he warned party workers of the BJP’s expanding influence across the country.

Thirumavalavan compared the BJP’s reach to the arms of an octopus. He said the party was trying to control everything in India. He urged his cadres to stay away from “opportunistic politics” and not focus solely on alliances.

“We believe the BJP should not grow in Tamil Nadu. But their tentacles have gripped India. They are creating tensions and spreading communal hate,” he said in the video.

He accused the BJP of creating false narratives about the VCK. “They say we support only the DMK. This is to damage our image. They are trying to mislead the public,” he claimed.

The VCK chief said it was time for party workers to look beyond alliances and elections. He stressed the need to protect the Constitution written by Dr BR Ambedkar.

“The BJP is acting smartly. They are slowly going against Ambedkar’s Constitution. Defeating them in elections is important. But saving the Constitution is even more important,” he said.

He said many people still don’t understand what is at stake. “Debates often focus on BJP vs Congress or BJP vs DMK. But we must go beyond these. Our fight is about principles,” he added.

Thirumavalavan clarified that VCK is open to talks with other parties. But he warned against choosing partners based only on electoral gains.

“VCK cadres should understand that we can hold talks with many parties. We can accept the best deal. But that is not our goal. Opportunistic politics is not our way,” he said.

He urged his supporters to stay strong. “We must have the courage to remain in one alliance. Or go alone if needed,” he said.

His remarks come ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Talks are ongoing between the BJP and AIADMK for a possible alliance.

AIADMK has said it will decide on alliances only after the results. Party spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said the final outcome would determine the nature of the government.

Meanwhile, the BJP-AIADMK alliance was formally revived on 11 April. AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami is leading the campaign. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called it a key moment.

Thirumavalavan’s speech signals growing concern among regional parties. Many fear the BJP is weakening federal values. The VCK leader urged the public to stay alert and stand up for democracy.
