The Jammu and Kashmir administration has put in place tight security arrangements for Ashura observance across the Union Territory.
Thousands of mourners joined the main procession from Bota Kadal to Imam Bara Zadibal in Srinagar.
The procession brought together Shia mourners from different parts of the Kashmir Valley to Zadibal, where tributes are being paid to Imam Hussain, members of his family, and his companions through rituals and religious recitations.
According to officials, the UT administration has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the mourning procession.
Besides, Healthcare facilities, drinking water, sanitation, traffic regulation, and emergency response services have been arranged along the route.
A multi-layered security grid has been established with the deployment of police, CRPF, and other security personnel. Aerial surveillance and CCTV monitoring are also being used to maintain round-the-clock vigilance.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is expected to visit Zadibal to witness the occasion and take stock of the arrangements in place.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued advisories to the general public and mourners to observe Muharram in a peaceful and dignified manner.
Participants have been asked to maintain communal harmony and follow all directions issued by the administration and police authorities.
