Three accused individuals, including the owner and managers of separate restaurants, were remanded to police custody until May 24 by a court in Pune on Tuesday.
The case pertains to a tragic car accident involving a 17-year-old boy that resulted in the deaths of two individuals early on Monday.
The accused, identified as Naman Pralhad Bhutda, owner of Cosie restaurant, Sachin Katkar, manager of Cosie restaurant, and Sandip Sangle, manager of Blak Club hotel, were presented before the court.
The prosecution argued for their custody, alleging that the establishments owned or managed by the accused had served alcohol to the minor boy and his companions without verifying their ages.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense, Additional Sessions Court Judge S P Ponkshe granted police custody of the three accused until May 24.
The tragic incident occurred when a Porsche car, allegedly driven by the intoxicated juvenile, collided with two motorbike riders in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area early Sunday morning, resulting in their deaths.
The victims, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, lost their lives in the accident.
According to the police, the juvenile and his friends visited the two establishments between 9:30 pm and 1 am on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, where they purportedly consumed alcohol.
The boy's father, a real estate developer, has been detained by the police, while three executives of the two hotels have been arrested for serving liquor to the underage individual.
