At least three Amarnath yatris among four people were injured in a road crash in Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

Officials also confirmed that the incident took place this morning near Chandanwari when a taxi skidded off the road, leaving three Yatris and the driver injured.

“All four injured had received minor injuries,” officials said, adding that three injured persons were residents of Gujarat.

Before this, 36 pilgrims were injured when five buses of the cavalcade slammed into each other at Chanderkote, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district.

The incident took place at the Chanderkote Langer site when a bus in the cavalcade en route to Pahalgam lost control and collided with other buses.

Officials present at the site initiated a quick rescue, and along with the assistance of local volunteers, rushed all injured persons to the nearby district hospital.

Reportedly, since the commencement of Yatra, over 70,000 pilgrims have had 'darshan' at the holy Amarnath cave shrine. This year’s annual Amarnath Yatra started on July 3 from the twin tracks—the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

LG Manoj Sinha, before flagging off the Yatra, said, “This year, 3.71 lakh people have registered for the yatra." However, he expressed hope that numbers will further improve in the coming days as the administration has set up multiple offline registration centres at the Jammu base camp for the convenience of the pilgrims.
