At least three people were found dead inside a hotel room in Bhaderwah, J&K’s Doda district, authorities informed on Thursday.
The police have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated a probe.
SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta, said that the preliminary inquiry suggests “asphyxiation.”
Sharing inputs about the case, the SSP said that police received a call from the brother of one of the deceased persons, mentioning that there had been no response to multiple phone calls.
Subsequently, he said, the phone’s location was traced. In the meantime, one of the several teams constituted to trace the vehicle in which the brother of the caller travelled from Jammu to Bhaderwah was also deployed.
During the investigation, it emerged that three persons had booked one room in the Royal Inn Guest House.
“There was no response after the room was knocked repeatedly. The door was subsequently broken open, and the police found three people in an unconscious state, with two of them lying on the bed and another inside the washroom,” he said, adding, “Teams of doctors and forensic experts were called in, and doctors declared the trio dead.”
He said that while investigations are underway, preliminary inquiries suggest it was a case of asphyxiation.
“A charcoal heater was found inside the room, and it appears to be a case of asphyxiation, but reports from forensics are awaited, and further investigations are underway,” he said.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been identified as Mukesh Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Domana in Jammu; Ashutosh Singh Rana, son of Daleep Singh Rana, a resident of Bhela, Doda, and currently residing in Purkhoo, Jammu; and Sunny Choudhary.
