A day after one person died of drug overdose in Lakhbir Ke Behram village of Ferozepur district, three more people of the same village died on Wednesday after injecting narcotic tablets dissolved in water.

 

Infuriated by the deaths, villagers blocked the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway in protest against the administration’s failure to act against drug peddlers and check the supply of drugs from across the border. They said the drug trade continues unabated despite a police station located on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road. Over the years, the village has recorded 85 drug-related deaths.
