Assam Police arrested three of the four prisoners who escaped from Sadiya sub-divisional jail on Wednesday, hours after a daytime jailbreak triggered a high alert across the region.
The arrests were made during a special operation led by Sadiya Additional Superintendent of Police Arunima Bhuyan. Acting on specific inputs, police teams tracked down and apprehended the escapees from the Ambikapur area under the Sadiya subdivision.
The four prisoners had fled earlier in the day by scaling the jail wall, raising serious questions over security arrangements at the facility. The escape, which took place during daylight hours, prompted intensified surveillance and search operations in Sadiya and adjoining areas.

The escapees were identified as Nabin Buragohain, Amlan Jyoti Chetia, Sashidhar Deori and Sonto Sonowal. Three are now back in custody, while one prisoner remains absconding.
Multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the remaining fugitive. Checkpoints have been reinforced and movement across sensitive locations is being closely monitored as part of the ongoing manhunt.
Preliminary assessments point to a possible security lapse at the jail. The circumstances under which the prisoners managed to breach the premises are being verified, and an inquiry into the incident is expected amid scrutiny of surveillance and staffing at the sub-divisional jail.
