The police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Saturday arrested three alleged inter-state drug smugglers, including two residents of Delhi, and seized 22 grams of heroin valued in lakhs, officials said.

The arrests were made during a vehicle checking operation at Phalata in Rehambal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a police spokesperson confirmed. The accused were identified as Ishfaq Ahmed of Srinagar, and Farooq Ahmad and Mohd Kamal Hussain, both from Delhi. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them.

In a separate action, the police also detained a notorious drug peddler, Ajay Dev Singh of Shiv Nagar, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.

The spokesman said Singh had been actively involved in promoting drug addiction among youth and posed a serious threat to peaceful enviornment. Multiple cases have already been registered against him in various police stations across the district.
