At least three Army personnel were injured in a fierce firefight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday, according to official reports.

The exchange of gunfire erupted near the Kumkadi post in the Trehgam sector of north Kashmir.

Officials stated that the incident occurred when security forces detected militant activity during searches in the area.

Upon challenging the militants, an intense exchange of fire ensued, resulting in injuries to three soldiers.

As per the latest updates, the operation is ongoing, and further details are anticipated.

This incident follows a deadly gunfight earlier in the week in the Trumkhan Top area, where a soldier and a terrorist were killed after security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt.

Earlier this month, another confrontation in the Battal area of the Krishna Ghati sector led to the death of a soldier during a firefight with militants.

The region has seen a surge in attacks targeting security personnel, raising concerns about the efficacy of the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces are currently grappling with one of the most intense phases of terrorist activity in the region since the abrogation of Article 370.

In a recent address from Kargil on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “Pakistan has not learned its lesson from history, and it continues to impose a proxy war against India.” He emphasized the need for a robust response to such threats.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, echoed similar sentiments during a function at the Raj Bhawan, stating, “We will defeat every nefarious design, and every drop of blood shed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists will be avenged.”
