Three medical students from Karnataka were drowned on Sunday after being swept away while swimming in the sea off Payyambalam Beach, Kannur.
The young men, identified as Afnan, Rahanudeen, and Afraz, were all studying at a medical college in Bengaluru and were staying as guests at a nearby resort. They had arrived in Kannur on Saturday with a group of five friends.
The incident occurred around 11 am, with reports suggesting the trio were caught by strong currents while bathing. It is suspected they became trapped in a whirlpool. Their friends swiftly raised the alarm, immediately alerting onlookers and the authorities.
Despite a rapidly launched rescue operation, the young men sadly succumbed to the sea. Police have since confirmed that all three bodies have been recovered.
