A revenue official and a retired serviceman were among three people killed after a car collided head-on with a truck on the single-lane Pachgaon-Jamalpur road in the Bilaspur area of Gurugram, police said on Thursday.
The truck driver fled the spot after the accident, which occurred late on Wednesday evening. Police have lodged an FIR at Bilaspur police station and seized the truck. The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep (40), a patwari with HSIIDC; Naval Singh (70), retired Army personnel; and Samay Singh, a farmer.
All three were residents of Pukharpur village. They were returning from Jamalpur late in the evening when their speeding car collided with an oncoming truck near Mokalwas village. Kuldeep was driving the car at the time of the accident.
The car was completely mangled in the impact, trapping all three occupants inside. Police and locals extricated them from the wreckage and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they were declared them brought dead on arrival.
Officials said the truck was registered in Daman and Diu and had come to Bilaspur with a loaded cargo. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. “The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. We are making efforts to trace and nab the truck driver,” a senior police officer said.
