Three people died on the spot, and two others were seriously injured when their vehicle fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge in Churah area of Chamba district, police said on Thursday.
The victims were returning home after attending a wedding when the accident occurred on the Devikoti-Tepa road late Wednesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Rajinder Kumar (driver), Pummy Kumar, and Sachin. The injured, Amar Singh and Dharam Singh, were first taken to the Civil Hospital in Tissa and later referred to the Medical College in Chamba.
All five victims were residents of Chamba district.
Locals rushed to the spot for rescue operations as soon as they heard about the accident and informed the police. Police said the bodies will be handed over to the families after the postmortem on Thursday.
A case has been registered, and a probe is underway to find out the cause of the accident.
