Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Jogwan area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu district’s Akhnoor on Monday morning.
The exchange began after suspected militants opened fire on an army vehicle around 7 a.m. No casualties were reported among security personnel.
Following the attack, a large-scale search operation was launched, leading to the militants’ discovery and a subsequent gunfight, during which the three were neutralised. The operation is ongoing, according to security sources.
This encounter follows a recent escalation in militant attacks across Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces were placed on high alert in the border districts of Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri due to recent violence in the Kashmir Valley.
On October 20, seven civilians, including a local doctor and six construction workers, were killed in an attack near Gagangir in Ganderbal district. Four days later, another ambush in Botapathri, Gulmarg, left three army personnel and two porters dead, with three others injured.
Security agencies have intensified their search operations in Jammu and Kashmir to track down suspected militants involved in recent ambushes. Authorities have granted security forces full authority to neutralise active militant threats, with heightened alerts now in place across the region.
