A three-storey building collapsed in Shahad-Belapur Village on Saturday morning, injuring two individuals and prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m., leading local authorities to mobilise teams from the Fire Brigade and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for immediate assistance.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailas Shinde confirmed that while all individuals initially trapped in the debris have been rescued, two people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble.
“The building collapsed around 5 a.m. It is a G+3 building. The NDRF team is here, and rescue operations are underway,” Shinde stated.
Purushottam Jadhav, Deputy Fire Officer of Navi Mumbai, noted that emergency services received a call about the collapse at approximately 4:50 a.m. “Two people have been rescued, but two others are likely to be trapped,” he added.
The structure, located in a densely populated area, raises concerns about the safety of similar buildings in the vicinity.
The rescued individuals have been taken to a hospital for treatment. Emergency services continue to work diligently at the site, and further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
