Multiple areas in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms for over a day starting from Sunday night due to a western disturbance, according to an advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday. Residents have been urged to remain indoors during this period.

"Rain is anticipated to commence tonight from the northern and western regions of Punjab, gradually covering many areas of Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh within the following 24-36 hours. Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (40-60 kmph), and isolated hailstorms are highly probable during this duration," stated an alert from the IMD Chandigarh.

Residents have been cautioned against using running water, and advised to avoid areas near windows, doors, and verandahs, as well as to unplug all electrical appliances. The IMD has also issued warnings regarding lightning and thunderstorms, urging people to steer clear of metals, water bodies, and trees.
