Tigers return to Chambal: A must-visit MP wildlife spot

Chambal's wildlife beckons: Explore Madhya Pradesh's 9th tiger reserve!

News Arena Network - Bhopal - UPDATED: March 11, 2025, 07:56 PM - 2 min read

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav officially opened the new Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri district on Monday. This reserve is now the ninth in Madhya Pradesh and the 58th tiger reserve in India. To mark the occasion, CM Yadav released a tigress into the reserve as part of efforts to bring tigers back to the region.

Speaking at the event, CM Yadav called it a historic day for the Chambal region, as tigers are returning to the area. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conservation efforts for the approval of this new reserve and highlighted the state's commitment to protecting wildlife.

The Chief Minister also launched the official logo of the reserve and inaugurated its boundary wall. He stressed that the government is working hard to boost wildlife tourism in the Chambal region. He pointed out that Madhya Pradesh has a rich variety of wildlife, including cheetahs in Kuno National Park and gharials in the Chambal River.

With tigers now added to the Madhav Tiger Reserve, the area is expected to become a major tourist attraction. He added that the government’s efforts will bring economic growth, create jobs, and promote new development projects in the Gwalior-Chambal area.

CM Yadav noted that Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers in India, earning it the title of "Tiger State." The Chambal region was the only area in the state without a tiger population, and now this gap has been filled.

The inauguration of the tiger reserve, which coincided with the birth anniversary of late leader Madhavrao Scindia, is another step towards the overall development of the state.

He also spoke about the potential for wildlife tourism in Madhya Pradesh. The Madhav Tiger Reserve is home to many species, including leopards, bears, deer, wolves, jackals, pythons, vultures, and chinkaras. With the return of tigers, the reserve will play a crucial role in conservation.

CM Yadav assured that the government will ensure the protection of all wildlife in the reserve while allowing visitors to experience the natural habitat.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised CM Yadav for establishing the tiger reserve, calling it a great contribution to the Gwalior-Chambal region. He noted that after Panna Tiger Reserve, this is the third national park in Madhya Pradesh to be revived. He also emphasized that the reserve will attract more wildlife tourists and enhance conservation efforts in the state.

Scindia highlighted the government's success in reintroducing cheetahs to Kuno National Park. He mentioned that three tigers were released into Madhav National Park in 2023, and now another tigress has been added. With Kuno and Madhav reserves covering more than 3,000 square kilometers, the region is set to become an important center for wildlife conservation.

The Union Minister assured full support for the development of the Madhav Tiger Reserve and expressed confidence that it will strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as a leading state in wildlife conservation.
