The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board is set to consider significant reforms aimed at modernising and broadening the temple’s donation system, with a focus on transparency and inclusivity. At a key Trust Board meeting scheduled for Saturday at Annamayya Bhavan under the chairmanship of B. R. Naidu, proposals related to donations and Annadanam are expected to take centre stage.
One of the major initiatives under discussion is the introduction of donation certificates for devotees contributing to the Srivari Hundi. Traditionally, devotees deposit coins and cash directly into the Hundi. To reduce the inconvenience of carrying large sums of money, TTD plans to allow devotees to make contributions—particularly through digital modes—and receive official donation certificates. These certificates can then be placed in the Hundi as a formal record of the offering.
As part of the proposed system, special donation centres may be set up in Tirupati and Tirumala to facilitate digital payments through platforms such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT). The move is aimed at streamlining the donation process and ensuring greater accountability.
Another key proposal focuses on expanding participation in the Annadanam scheme at the Matrushri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasada Kendra, where lakhs of devotees are served free meals daily. Currently, sponsoring Annaprasadam for a full day requires a donation of Rs 44 lakh, while breakfast, lunch and dinner sponsorships cost Rs 10 lakh, Rs 17 lakh and Rs 17 lakh respectively.
TTD is now considering allowing smaller contributions for Annadanam, enabling ordinary devotees to take part in the sacred service. Under the proposal, donations sufficient to feed ten or one hundred devotees may be accepted, with the offering made in the donor’s name. The Trust Board is expected to deliberate on the plan and make a decision soon.
Through these proposed measures, TTD aims to make the donation system more accessible and transparent, encouraging wider participation in Srivari’s sevas and charitable initiatives.
