The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday staged a massive protest march in Kolkata, accusing the Election Commission of conspiring to delete genuine voters’ names under the pretext of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The rally, led by party supremo Mamata Banerjee and All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, marked the beginning of a larger campaign aimed at legally and politically countering what the party calls the BJP’s “agency terrorism.”

In a significant move, the TMC Lawyers’ Cell has announced a series of public meetings across all districts of West Bengal from November 11 to 20. The campaign will begin at Dorina Crossing in central Kolkata at 3 pm on November 11, led by state minister and senior TMC leader Chandrima Bhattacharya.

The initiative aims to strengthen public outreach and ensure legal aid for party workers allegedly targeted by central agencies like CBI and ED.

According to the TMC leadership, the BJP-led central government is using agencies such as the ED and CBI to intimidate and suppress opposition workers, particularly in East Midnapore and North Bengal.

“This time, the message is clear — we will fight injustice through the law,” said a senior TMC functionary.

Party sources revealed that local lawyers will address each district-level meeting, explaining to citizens how to build “legal resistance” against what the party terms the misuse of central power and the Election Commission.

At a recent party event, Abhishek urged TMC workers to remain fearless in the face of political pressure. “Work without fear in the face of BJP’s conspiracy. The party will take responsibility for legal assistance,” he declared.

Following his directive, the TMC’s legal cell promptly organised the upcoming state-wide legal awareness program, viewed internally as both a legal shield and a political mobilisation strategy ahead of the Assembly elections in 2026.

The first major gathering on November 11 will see hundreds of lawyers and TMC workers take to the streets at Dorina Crossing, a traditional protest hub in Kolkata.

“This is not just a protest platform but an initiative to make the common people aware of their legal rights,” said a party leader.

East Midnapore has been given special focus, with large-scale meetings planned in Kanthi, Tamluk, and Nandigram, where the BJP continues to maintain a strong organisational presence. Similar programs are also scheduled for Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar in North Bengal — Bharatiya Janata Party’s turf where the TMC is seeking to expand its grassroots influence.

Political observers view the initiative as part of the Trinamool’s larger counter-pressure strategy using legal means to push back against the BJP’s narrative and galvanise support among its workers.

A senior Trinamool leader summed it up, “The BJP wants to scare us — we will respond with law. This time, the legal cell will take to the streets.”

The series of programs, blending legal awareness with political messaging, is expected to set the tone for the TMC’s pre-election campaign across Bengal.
