Hardly three months since Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra exchanged blows in a public fight, the two Trinamool Congress members are now once again pointing guns at one another over the former's inflammatory comments in the Kolkata law college rape case. This time, Banerjee has made a personal attack on Moitra, pointing at her marriage by mentioning that she broke up a man's family who was married for 40 years— her union with Odisha Biju Janata Dal former MP Pinaki Misra.

"Mahua has come back to India after her honeymoon and started fighting with me! She accuses me of being anti-woman, that what she is? She has broken up a 40-year marriage and married a guy who is 65 years old. Did she not hurt the lady?," he asked.

"An MP who has been kicked out of parliament for unethical behaviour is sermonising me! She is the most anti-women. She knows only how to secure her future and earn money," he went on to add.

Banerjee's tirade follows as Moitra criticised the TMC for failing to denounce its own party leaders on loose talk and veered indirectly towards taking a dig at his 'avoid bad company' bombshell on the law student gang rape.

In the law college gangrape case, Banerjee stated that a woman should be cautious about the person they choose to go out with. "They who hang out with such people must realise whom they are going out with," Banerjee had said this after the gangrape incident was reported from Kolkata on Friday.

Although the TMC conveniently distanced itself from Banerjee's survivor-shamming statement and stated that it was made in his private capacity, Moitra highlighting her party's tweet on X said: "Misogyny in India transcends party lines. What sets @AITCofficial apart is that we denounce these repulsive comments regardless of who utters them."

On April 4, 2025, both MPs were involved in a heated quarrel at the office of the Election Commission of India in New Delhi. Sources say the fight got out of hand with Moitra reportedly asking for security personnel to "arrest him."

Moitra's name is said to have been removed from a TMC party memorandum to the poll body, which is the source of the dispute.

The matter finally surfaced when a WhatsApp exchange between Banerjee and another TMC MP, Kirti Azad, made public. Banerjee had reportedly referred to Moitra as a "versatile international lady" in the chat.
