Soon after the conclusion of polling in the West Bengal Assembly election, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate and outgoing Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday morning in connection with a municipal recruitment corruption case.
Bose reached the CGO Complex in Salt Lake around 10:26 am, accompanied by his son Samudra and two legal representatives. His appearance follows a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which had granted him temporary relief from attending ED proceedings during the election period.
On April 23, Justice Krishna Rao ruled that while Bose could defer his appearance due to poll commitments, he must present himself before the agency on May 1. Complying with the order, Bose appeared before investigators a day after voting concluded.
Speaking briefly to media outside the ED’s office, Bose said he was carrying documents, primarily copies of the court’s order. He had earlier skipped multiple summonses issued by the ED since April 2, citing campaign obligations, and had moved the court seeking relief.
The probe is linked to alleged irregularities in recruitment within the South Dum Dum Municipality. The case traces back to 2022, when the ED, while investigating the teacher recruitment scam, reportedly uncovered leads during a search at the residence of Ayan Sil, an accused in the recruitment scam case. Subsequent raids were conducted at Bose’s residence, office, and properties associated with his close aides.
Prior to Friday’s appearance, Bose had been served at least three notices by the central agency in connection with the case.
