A low-pressure area has been formed over the Bay of Bengal.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is likely to move in the northwest direction and come closer to the Tamil Nadu coast.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
“Andhra Pradesh state is likely to get moderate to heavy rains and some places heavy to very heavy rainfalls during the next three to four days,” said Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre MD KVS Srinivas.
This time, IMD has predicted “heavy rain” on Wednesday at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema.
“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are at isolated places over NCAP and Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema,” stated IMD in a release.
For Thursday, the department forecast “heavy to very heavy rain” in parts of NCAP and Yanam and “heavy rain at isolated places” in SCAP and Rayalaseema.
The Met Department stated that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, has become well-marked.
"It is likely to move northwestwards towards the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts over the next 24 hours. Subsequently, it is expected to move northwards along the Andhra Pradesh coast in the following 24 hours," the department added.
Earlier this month, a low-pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal, causing widespread rainfall in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.
The cyclonic storm over Southwest Bay of Bengal was about 40 km away from the coast, 50 km south-southeast of Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu), 60 km east-northeast of Puducherry and 90 km south of Chennai, the IMD added.
