The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will convene on June 18, beginning with the customary address by the Governor, Assembly Speaker J C D Prabhakar announced on Friday.

The Speaker said details regarding the duration of the session and the legislative business to be taken up would be disclosed after the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). Responding to queries from the media, Prabhakar said all relevant information would be made public once the committee finalises the schedule. "Whenever the BAC meets, all the details will be shared with you," he said.

The Speaker was also asked about protocol issues relating to the national song 'Vande Mataram' and the national anthem during the Governor's address, as well as whether any specific request had been received from the Governor in this regard.

Without elaborating, Prabhakar said the proceedings would speak for themselves. "You will see for yourself what happens when the Governor delivers his address," he remarked. On petitions relating to the AIADMK, including some that were reportedly withdrawn, the Speaker clarified that no final decision had yet been reached.

"If a decision had been taken, I would have announced it immediately," Prabhakar said. "The matter is still under consideration. We are examining all petitions and representations that have been submitted. Appropriate action will be taken and communicated at the appropriate time."

Addressing calls for a complete live telecast of Assembly proceedings, the Speaker acknowledged the growing public interest in watching legislative debates and discussions in real time. He noted that there has been a significant increase in interest among young people who are keen to observe the functioning of elected representatives directly rather than relying solely on news reports.

"Particularly the younger generation, who earlier followed politics only through occasional news coverage, are now eager to watch how their MLAs, ministers and the Chief Minister function inside the House," he said.

Prabhakar added that the demand for broader live coverage of Assembly proceedings is being considered and that a suitable decision on expanding telecasts would be taken at the appropriate time.
