Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi walks out of Assembly without delivering his address, citing inaccuracies in the DMK government’s text, sparking sharp backlash

The Governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi, walked out of the state Assembly’s ongoing maiden session of this year, without delivering his customary address on Tuesday. He cited some  "inaccuracies" in the DMK government's prepared text as the reason behind his walkout.

It also alleged his "mic was switched off." Minutes after Ravi walked out of the 234-member House without delivering his address, the Lok Bhavan issued a 13-point explainer on why Ravi "declined" to read out the address.

It alleged the Governor's mic "was repeatedly switched off and he was not allowed to speak."

"The speech contains numerous unsubstantiated claims and misleading statements. Several crucial issues troubling the people are ignored," it said.

Governor’s action has been slammed by the Chief Minister M K Stalin, calling it "walking out in violation of tradition and ethos," and later piloted a resolution saying that the English version of the address was assumed to have been read.

CM accused the Governor of "deliberately" doing such things and said his action "amounts to insulting the House."

"The governor walked out in violation of traditions and ethos. In the state government prepared address, there is no provision for the governor to include his views or say something else," the chief minister cited.

Stalin further reiterated the ruling DMK's stand that there was no need for a Governor, although its past CMs- late CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi respected the position.
