A 36-year-old Indian worker from Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district was killed in Kuwait after a missile fragment struck his residence amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The deceased, identified as Santhana Selvam, was a native of Anikurunthan village near Mudukulathur. He had been working in Kuwait for over a decade as an electrician and was employed with a private engineering, general trading, and contracting firm.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday morning when a fragment from a missile—fired during ongoing hostilities in the region—hit the premises where Selvam was staying. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Selvam is survived by his wife, Kausalya, and their two children. The grieving family has appealed to authorities for urgent assistance. They met Ramanathapuram District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon and submitted a petition seeking immediate repatriation of Selvam’s body to his native village, along with compensation.
The tragedy comes amid intensifying conflict in the Middle East, with hostilities between Iran and Israel increasingly affecting the wider Gulf region. Iran’s retaliatory strikes targeting US allies have raised serious security concerns, even in relatively stable countries such as Kuwait.
The situation has also disrupted global trade routes, with reports indicating that Iran has closed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, diplomatic efforts are underway, with the United States announcing a temporary pause in attacks as ceasefire negotiations continue.
