Tourists visiting Mussoorie will now need to register their details at the time of check-in, using a portal set up by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department, an official said on Thursday.
District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey said the rule came into effect on Wednesday. Hotels, guest houses, homestays, and similar establishments must first register themselves on the portal and then enter the details of their guests when they check in.
He said the move aims to help manage overcrowding and traffic in the popular hill town. Tourist numbers in Mussoorie have nearly doubled between 2022 and 2024, making such steps necessary.
“This will also give us real-time data on tourist footfall in the town,” Pandey added.
Hoteliers and property owners have been asked to follow the rule strictly. The National Green Tribunal had earlier asked the state to start tourist registration and submit regular data for Mussoorie.
