Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been restored following two days of restoration work at the Banihal sector after heavy rainfall triggered landslides, officials said on Sunday.
Heavy rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir had disrupted normal life, with most parts of the Kashmir Valley receiving rain and fresh snowfall over the past few days.
Several low-lying areas in Srinagar city witnessed waterlogging, while the MeT has predicted further rain and snowfall in the coming days.
The MeT office in Srinagar has forecast erratic weather conditions to continue across the region until April 10.
Meanwhile, debris clearance operations are still ongoing at the Shalgari stretch, after which traffic from both sides is allowed in a systematic manner under the supervision of the Traffic Department, Kashmir.
According to officials, vehicles are being allowed in a controlled manner to ensure safety during the ongoing work.
They said authorities are monitoring the situation to maintain the smooth movement of traffic along the highway.
Travellers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, check road status before travelling, and follow instructions issued by the department.
Furthermore, the weather has slightly improved in the Kashmir Valley after days of incessant rains drenched the plains, while the upper reaches were covered with a fresh blanket of snow.
