Six people were killed and one other was injured in a fire that erupted at a chemical plant in Bassi area of Jaipur district on Saturday evening, officials reported.
The blaze, which ignited following an explosion in the factory's boiler, claimed the lives of five individuals at the scene, with an additional victim succumbing to injuries at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Kavendra Sagar.
The deceased were identified as Hiralal Gurjar, Gokul Harijan, Krishna Gujar, Manohar, and Babulal Meena.
Jaipur District Collector Prakash Rajpurohit confirmed the incident, noting the tragic demise of one of the two injured individuals who had been rushed to Sawai Man Singh government hospital with severe burn injuries.
The Jaipur Commissioner of Police, Biju George Joseph, affirmed the containment of the fire, with efforts now focused on treating the injured.
In response to the tragedy, locals and relatives of the victims assembled near the factory, blocking the Benada-Shreeji Road and demanding justice. Their grievances included calls for compensation for the families, government employment opportunities for the bereaved, and the apprehension of the factory owner, who is reportedly at large.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed condolences for the loss of life and urged prompt assistance for those affected. He directed officials to provide aid swiftly and ensure comprehensive relief efforts.
"The death of civilians due to a fire accident in the chemical factory in Bassi near Jaipur is extremely sad," Sharma conveyed. "The concerned officers have been instructed to immediately reach the spot and conduct relief and rescue work expeditiously and provide all possible help to the affected people."
"I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured,” he added.
