Train services in the Lumding-Badarpur section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) were restored on Friday, following the derailment of eight coaches of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express in Assam's Dima Hasao district.
The incident had occurred on Thursday, causing significant disruption to train operations in the area.
An NF Railway spokesperson confirmed that the first train to pass through the affected site at Dibalong station was the SMVT Bengaluru-Agartala Express at 9.48 am.
“Train services through the affected site have been restored since this morning, and there will be no further train cancellations in the section,” the spokesperson stated.
The derailment took place at approximately 3:55 pm on Thursday, with no fatalities or major injuries reported.
An accident relief medical train, along with senior railway officials, including members of the Railway Board, arrived at the site to supervise rescue and restoration efforts.
Despite the restoration of services, trains that had been cancelled or rescheduled for Friday, including the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Special and the Rangiya-Silchar-Rangiya Express, will remain affected.
Additional cancellations include the Agartala-Firozpur Cantt Express, Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express, and the Dullabcherra-Guwahati Express.
NF Railway officials are continuing investigations into the cause of the derailment.
Senior officials at the site assured that normal services would fully resume after thorough safety checks.
A bulletin from NF Railway also confirmed the cancellation of the Anand Vihar Terminal-Kamakhya Special, scheduled for 20 October, among other services.
