Pinky Devi, newly elected as the chief of the transgender community in Uttar Pradesh's Banda, has called for action against individuals falsely posing as transgender.
Speaking on Thursday, she urged the government to identify and report these "fake" transgenders who exploit the community for personal financial gain.
“I am appealing to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this cause,” Pinky said, asking for support to ensure the safety and protection of the transgender community.
Pinky took up the leadership mantle following the death of Rama, a revered transgender figure in Banda, in August.
The transgender community organised a grand procession to honour Rama’s memory, with participants from Jaipur, Kanpur, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and nearby districts.
The group offered prayers at the Sunasira Nath Temple as a mark of respect.
Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Awasthi confirmed that the procession was held with the administration’s permission, and adequate security was provided to the gathering.
