A woman was allegedly paraded semi-naked in Jharkhand's Pakur over an alleged affair. Police booked seven named accused and over 30 unidentified people.

A woman was allegedly paraded in a semi-naked condition through a village in Jharkhand's Pakur district after being accused of having an extramarital relationship, prompting police to register a criminal case against seven named persons and around 30 unidentified individuals. The incident allegedly took place on June 26 in Burhiduba village under the Amrapara police station limits.

Videos purportedly showing the woman and a man being forced to walk through the village in their undergarments while being assaulted with sticks have circulated widely on social media over the past few days, triggering outrage.

According to the police, the two were allegedly targeted by villagers over a suspected consensual relationship. The woman is married, while the man, who is also reportedly married, is a resident of the Borio block in neighbouring Sahibganj district.

After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the village, rescued the pair, and placed them under protective custody. Additional security personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order. The operation was supervised by Amrapara Station House Officer Anoop Roshan Bhengra, Sub-Inspector Chandan Kumar and other officials, while Maheshpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vijay Kumar later visited the village to review the situation.

Based on the survivor's statement, Amrapara Police registered Case No. 49/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Besides the seven named accused, more than 30 unidentified persons have also been booked.

Police are also investigating the recording and circulation of videos related to the incident on social media and the possible involvement of those who filmed and

The alleged public humiliation has renewed concerns over mob justice, women's dignity, and the rule of law. Legal experts have underscored that even if the relationship was consensual, it cannot justify public violence or acts of humiliation.

The role of local community leaders is also under scrutiny. Local mukhiya Sahebjan Kisku condemned the incident, describing it as "highly reprehensible" and calling for stringent legal action against those responsible.

Confirming that a case has been registered, Maheshpur SDPO Vijay Kumar said police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused. He also appealed to the public not to circulate objectionable videos related to the incident, warning that those found doing so would face legal action.
