Anurag Dhankar, Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura, was found dead inside his office at the Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday, officials said.
Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, was taken to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital after he was discovered unresponsive in his chamber. Doctors declared him dead at 12:48 pm, according to hospital authorities.
Senior police officials rushed to the headquarters following the incident, and the premises were secured. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
Officials said the exact cause will be determined after a post-mortem examination. Preliminary reports have suggested it may be a case of suicide, though authorities have not issued a final confirmation.
