In Tripura, severe floods and landslides have claimed at least ten lives and left one person missing since Sunday, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The northeastern state has been ravaged by torrential rains, leading to widespread devastation and displacing thousands of residents.
Heavy rainfall has caused rivers to overflow, flooding several areas and exacerbating the impact of landslides.
The state has reported approximately 1,900 landslides, which have severely disrupted road connectivity and isolated numerous communities.
In response, at least 32,750 people have sought refuge in 330 relief camps set up across the state.
Following an urgent request from Chief Minister Manik Saha, four additional teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have arrived in Tripura to bolster rescue operations.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), NDRF, and central paramilitary forces, including the Assam Rifles, are actively engaged in relief efforts.
Chief Minister Saha described the flooding as "unprecedented," highlighting the gravity of the situation.
He assured that the state government is working tirelessly, with district magistrates directed to provide all possible assistance to those affected. "The entire government machinery is functioning around the clock to manage this natural calamity," Saha stated.
In a show of solidarity, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached out to Chief Minister Saha, offering full support from the central government. Shah confirmed that additional NDRF teams, along with boats and helicopters, are being dispatched to aid local efforts.
On social media, Shah expressed the central government's commitment to supporting Tripura during this crisis. "We are firmly standing with our sisters and brothers in Tripura during this hour of crisis," he wrote on 'X'.
The severity of the situation has prompted the issuance of a red alert for West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, forecasting continued heavy rainfall.
The central and state agencies continue to work together to address the ongoing crisis, with efforts focused on rescue operations and providing relief to the affected populations.
