Tripura is preparing to host a major business conclave in July with the aim of attracting industrial investment proposals worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore, as the state government intensifies efforts to position itself as an emerging investment destination in the Northeast.

Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte said the proposed conclave is expected to draw strong participation from business groups and investors following positive responses during recent outreach programmes and roadshows conducted across metropolitan cities.

Gitte said Tripura had become the first state in the country to successfully implement all priority reforms under the second phase of the Centre’s deregulation and compliance reduction programme aimed at simplifying industrial clearances and approvals.

According to the official, the state has signed 394 memorandums of understanding since 2022 involving proposed investments worth Rs 35,140 crore, while
projects valued at Rs 5,352 crore have already been implemented.

He said the government had strengthened transport and connectivity infrastructure to support industrial expansion and improve the ease of doing business in the state.

Roadshows are also being organised in several metropolitan cities to promote Tripura as an attractive destination for industrial investment, Gitte added.

The state government is currently investing around Rs 10,000 crore in infrastructure development and expects substantial participation from private investors. Such investments, officials believe, could significantly boost Tripura’s economic growth and improve its contribution to the national GDP.

Gitte further said efforts were underway to invite leading information technology companies to establish operations in the state as part of a broader push to diversify Tripura’s industrial base.

Referring to the Maitri Setu project linking Sabroom in Tripura with Ramgarh in Bangladesh, the Industries Secretary said the state had already approached the Centre for its operationalisation and expressed hope that the international connectivity corridor would become functional soon.

The proposed business conclave is expected to be one of Tripura’s largest investment outreach initiatives in recent years and forms part of the state government’s strategy to attract industries, improve connectivity and generate employment opportunities.
