Tripura’s opposition parties, the CPI(M) and Congress, have called on the state government to formulate a comprehensive long-term recovery plan for flood-affected areas.
This plea was made during an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Manik Saha on August 24.
CPI(M) State Committee Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted the urgent need for immediate aid to those displaced by the floods.
He stressed the necessity of long-term strategies to help victims rebuild their lives and homes.
Chaudhury also criticised the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for insufficient flood warnings, which he believes compromised the administration’s preparedness.
Congress Pradesh Committee President Asish Kumar Saha praised Chief Minister Saha for organising the meeting, while Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman proposed the creation of a joint all-party committee.
This committee would assist flood victims and advocate for additional central government support.
Barman suggested forming district and sub-divisional committees to oversee relief distribution and called for increased funding from the central government.
Both parties stressed on the need for transparent and effective distribution of relief aid.
Chief Minister Saha assured that all concerns raised would be addressed and that efforts would be made to ensure relief reaches those in need.
