The Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) has submitted a proposal to the Government of India, seeking approval for the establishment of 45 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state.
In line with its ambitious plan to convert 10 percent of all vehicles to electric within the next five years, the Tripura government adopted an electric vehicle policy in 2022.
TSECL Assistant General Manager Kanak Lal Das revealed that the transport department has already set up an EV charging point at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala.
He added that plans are underway to install additional charging points at Chandrapur Interstate Bus Terminus, Radhar Nagar, and Nagerjala Bus Stand in the capital city.
“The transport department has already set up an EV charging point at the Civil Secretariat, and they also plan to install the same at Chandrapur Interstate Bus Terminus, Radhar Nagar, and Nagerjala Bus Stand in Agartala. From Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL), we plan to set up 45 EV charging points, and we have sent a proposal to the Government of India. If approved, we will install them at our substations,” Das stated.
He noted that they are still awaiting a response from the central government regarding their proposal.
According to regional statistics, out of the 7,630,921 vehicles registered in the northeast, 118,151 are electric. Notably, Tripura and Assam lead the region in EV adoption, with 2.16% and 2.02% of vehicles being electric, respectively, surpassing the national average.
