With Tripura in the throes of a relentless heatwave, the Sepahijala Zoo has taken decisive steps to ensure the well-being of its animal residents.

Gone are the days of lethargy and discomfort; a cool respite now awaits the zoo's inhabitants, from the majestic tigers to the vibrant birds.

Anticipating the dry spell and scorching temperatures, zoo authorities procured seven air coolers strategically positioned throughout the enclosures.

Tigers are basking in the cool air from two dedicated coolers, while three others have been deployed to create refreshing havens for exotic and sensitive birds.

Even the veterinary hospital within the zoo boasts two coolers, ensuring a comfortable environment for any animal requiring medical attention.

But the zoo's arsenal against the heat extends beyond cool air.

Diligent zookeepers have adopted a multi-pronged approach.

Water tanks, meticulously repaired beforehand, are constantly replenished with fresh, cool water.

A refreshing shower is no longer a luxury for the animals as multiple baths throughout the day keep them cool and hydrated.

Fortified water, a concoction of cold drinking water and ORS solution, is provided even to carnivores.

The enclosure floors themselves have become canvases for cool relief. Water sprays create a refreshing mist, combating the relentless heat.

Herbivores and birds alike enjoy a hydrating treat in the form of juicy watermelons.

Prevention is better than cure – a principle the zoo takes seriously.

Veterinarians maintain a vigilant 24-hour watch, ever-ready to address any health concerns.

Enclosures are well-equipped with air coolers and electric fans to ensure proper air circulation and minimize heat stress.

Special nets and mats offer cooling shade, while a robust 24-hour surveillance system ensures the safety of the zoo's inhabitants.

These measures haven't been implemented in vain. The zoo's meticulous planning and swift action have successfully warded off any heat-related illnesses among the animals.

Sepahijala Sanctuary and Zoo, a cherished haven for wildlife and a popular tourist destination, continues to fulfill its vital role – providing a safe and comfortable home for its precious creatures, even during the harshest of summers.
