The process for constituting a new council in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) formally began on Saturday after TIPRA Motha Party leaders met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan following the party’s emphatic victory in the recently concluded ADC polls.
The delegation was led by party founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma and included state minister Brishaketu Debbarma, along with senior leaders Runiel DebBarma and C.K. Jamatia. The meeting is being seen as the first formal step towards the administrative transition and formation of a new council under the TIPRA Motha-led dispensation.
In a key development, outgoing Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia submitted his resignation to the Governor, paving the way for the installation of the new council. With the tenure of the existing council nearing its end, the resignation clears the procedural path for the Governor to initiate the process of inviting the majority side to form the new body.

Sources indicated that discussions during the meeting also focused on the modalities for the swearing-in ceremony of the new council. An official announcement regarding the date of the oath-taking is expected shortly, as preparations gather pace.
The development comes in the wake of TIPRA Motha’s sweeping victory in the TTAADC elections, strengthening the party’s hold over tribal politics in the state and marking another major political milestone for the outfit led by Pradyot DebBarma.
The formation of the new council assumes significance as the TTAADC remains a key autonomous administrative body governing tribal areas of Tripura, with substantial powers over local governance and development matters.
Party leaders projected a united front during the meeting, signalling a smooth transition of power and the beginning of a new term under TIPRA Motha’s leadership.
With the political process now underway, all eyes are on the formal announcement of the new council and the swearing-in ceremony expected in the coming days.
