Tripura is set to usher in a new era of digital classrooms with the implementation of an e-attendance system for both teachers and students across all 4,912 government schools in the state.

This initiative, aimed at enhancing transparency and boosting educational performance, comes under the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) scheme.

According to a senior official from the Education Department, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the entire rollout process is expected to be completed within two years.

The VSK program, envisioned by the Union Education Ministry as a force multiplier, was first launched in Gujarat by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022. Its core objective is to amplify the capabilities of educators and students, ultimately leading to transformative improvements in learning outcomes.

The official elaborated that the e-attendance system is just the first step in a comprehensive digitalization drive. Following its successful deployment, a geo-tagging system will be introduced to ensure all relevant data is readily accessible online.

This will empower the Chief Minister, concerned ministers, and senior officials to monitor school and teacher performance in real-time from their respective offices.

Preparations for the digital shift are already underway. Headmasters and relevant personnel are undergoing rigorous training to familiarise themselves with the new system and ensure a smooth transition.

The Tripura government has already tested the waters of e-attendance in select government offices, including the civil secretariat, demonstrating its commitment to digital governance.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, recently launched the state's first VSK in Agartala. This center serves a multi-pronged purpose.

It facilitates quality education through technology, provides real-time monitoring of educational initiatives, and leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support and personalize learning experiences.

The VSK acts as a central hub for educational data, enabling stakeholders to gain real-time insights into the progress of various programs. This data-driven approach paves the way for informed decision-making, allowing authorities to identify areas needing improvement and develop targeted interventions.

Ultimately, the VSK aims to foster collaboration and coordinated efforts across the education sector, driving positive change and enhancing the existing capabilities of both educators and students.

Currently, Tripura's government school system caters to a vast student population of 6,94,539, with 37,761 dedicated teachers working across elementary, secondary, and higher secondary levels.

The implementation of the e-attendance system and the broader digitalization efforts mark a significant step towards ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and ultimately, improved educational outcomes for the state's youth.
