Five men have been killed, while one is injured, after a truck ran over them on a highway. The accident was reported in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district in the early hours of Sunday, the Police informed.
The incident occurred around 1 am on the Jabalpur-Amarkantak National Highway near Kikratalaab village under Gadasarai police station limits when the victims were returning home in a pickup vehicle. A tyre of the vehicle got punctured, following which the driver started changing it, and the occupants got out of the vehicle.
"A speeding truck ran over them. The driver told us he dozed off and could not see the victims," Dindori Superintendent of Police Vahni Singh informed the media.
The truck driver claimed the victims were standing in the middle of the road, she said.
Five men, including the pickup vehicle's driver, died on the spot, while one person suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital, the official said.
The truck driver was arrested, the police added.
