The families of workers trapped inside the under-construction Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana have urged the government to ensure their safe rescue.

At least eight workers are believed to be stuck after a section of the tunnel’s roof caved in around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, approximately 14 km from Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district.

Among those trapped are four workers from Gumla district of Jharkhand. The names of the trapped workers are Santosh Sahu, Anuj Sahu, Jagta Khess, and Sandeep Sahu. Their families, filled with anxiety, have been praying for their survival and safe return.

Santosh Sahu’s sister-in-law, Prema Devi, recalled the distressing moment when they received the news. “On Saturday evening, we got a call saying that eight workers, including my brother-in-law, Santosh Sahu, were trapped in the tunnel. This has left us deeply shaken. We urge the government to rescue them as soon as possible,” she said.

Sandeep Sahu’s wife, Santoshi Devi, also expressed her fear and distress. “He went to Telangana last year to earn a living because our financial situation is difficult. Now, after hearing about the accident, we are extremely worried. We just want him to return home safely,” she said.

Radhika Kumari, daughter of Santosh Sahu, voiced her deep concern for her father’s well-being. “My father has been working in Telangana for the past two years. We were informed that he is among those trapped inside the tunnel. We are extremely worried, and my mother has gone to the temple to pray for his safe return. I appeal to the government to bring him back unharmed,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has urged his Telangana counterpart to extend all possible assistance in the rescue operation.

“There are reports that several workers from Jharkhand and other states are trapped in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal Tunnel accident in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. I request Telangana Chief Minister @revanth_anumula ji to provide all necessary rescue support. I pray for the safety of all the workers caught in this accident,” Soren posted on X on Saturday night.

The Jharkhand government is coordinating with Telangana authorities and has assured that every possible effort will be made to assist in the rescue.
