A 13-year-old boy, who was reportedly kidnapped by his tutor more than a month ago, has been rescued by the police, and the abductor has been arrested, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Model Town SHO Sub-Inspector Gursahib Singh informed that the boy, who hailed from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, had been living with his parents in a rented house in Hoshiarpur. The victim, a Class 7 student, had been taking tuition from 51-year-old Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, daily from 3 pm to 7:30 pm. Singh convinced parents of the boy to allow him to take the child to Shimla for two days. However, after the trip began on March 12, the tutor blocked all communication from the family and stopped the child from speaking to anyone, the police further added.
The boy's parents searched for him for 18 days but could not locate either their son or the abductor. On April 2, they filed an FIR at the Model Town Police Station, leading to a hunt for Singh.
The police tracked the accused to a hotel in Darjeeling, West Bengal, where he was arrested two days ago. The accused kept changing his location frequently to evade arrest. The authorities said the accused had taken the boy near the Nepal border, and there was a strong possibility he planned to cross into Nepal with the child.
The boy was safely rescued and produced before the Child Welfare Committee. Singh was presented in court and remanded to four days of police custody for further questioning. The investigation into the motive behind the kidnapping is ongoing.
